Reptiles Need Accessories Too!   by Andrews Alzberg

Everybody knows how much dogs and cats need to be stimulated, and their love of play is manifest in their often fast paced lifestyles – reptiles, on the other hand, are often a lot less active, but this doesn’t mean that they have less need for stimulation and care – far from it! – and in fact, if anything reptiles require more in the way of care and reptile accessories than dogs and cats – due to their particular dietary requirements, as well as their climatic needs.

Heating

Reptile accessories that are designed to keep your reptiles “vivarium” at a comfortable temperature are particularly important – as remember, reptiles are cold blooded and therefore do not get the majority of their heat from eating food, and instead absorb it from the sunlight. Considering that most domestic reptiles come from countries far warmer than the UK the importance of things like heating mats etc is paramount to certain species.

Food

On a similar note, like all pets, reptiles have particular dietary requirements – therefore far from just being reptile accessories, the correct diet is essential for the well being of your animal; with this in mind, you should have a clear idea about your particular reptile likes to eat, and you should offer it things like live food – which will provide stimulation.

Stimulation

The importance of pet products that stimulate is obvious for certain kinds of animal – however, just because your reptile doesn’t show it, it will greatly appreciate some reptile accessories that are designed to stimulate – with lizards in mind, for example, you might consider incorporating lots of things to climb on into their vivarium, which is one of their favourite things to do!

Remember, lizards are extremely intelligent animals, and just because they seem different to your average pet, this does not mean that they have different needs – and they greatly appreciate companionship and stimulation, just like the rest of us!
